the Regis Tournament on Dec. 27.Colton's girls' basketball team is hoping to rebound after starting out league play 0-1 with a 49-40 loss to Jefferson last week.

Senior Grace James said the game was a rough one, and that they "didn't show urgency until the fourth quarter," and by that time, it was too late to mount a comeback.

"It was a very frustrating game, but we will bring the heat in this week's games," James said.

The PacWest Conference is again one of the toughest in the state this year, with Salem Academy no. 2, 11-2, 2-0 PacWest Conference), Gervais (no. 13, 10-3, 2-0 PWC), and Jefferson (10-3, 1-1 PWC) all boasting strong records, along with returning state champion Blanchet Catholic (no. 3, 8-5, 1-1 PWC).

"Our conference has always been very strong; we have Blanchet … and no. 2 Salem Academy, which has always been a tough team," James said. "Being in a very competitive and strong league with two top 3A teams in it is a great experience for our team and pushes us to be better players."

And even though they'll face some tough opponents as league play begins to get into full swing, James said she still believes they can make some noise.

"I still believe our team can make it far, by making it to playoffs and then onto the state tournament; we are going to need to get the necessary wins against the weaker teams in our league to continue forward," she said. "Our whole team has the winning mentality, we just have to prove it in these league games. We just have to continue working hard and make it happen."

Up next for Colton is an away game at Blanchet Catholic on Tuesday, followed by a home matchup against Scio (2-10, 0-2 PWC) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
