Involved young girl

A Madras man, Ernesto Torres, 34, was sentenced July 8 to over six years in prison for the sexual abuse of a young girl.

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Ernesto TorresOriginally charged with four counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of first-degree sodomy, and one count of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, Judge Gary L. Williams found Torres guilty of three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and acquitted Torres of the other charges on June 12.

The incidents occurred on or around Sept. 1, 2010.

The defendant was known to the victim, who was between 7 and 9 years of age at the time of the abuse, according to Sheryl Blackman, chief deputy district attorney, who prosecuted the case.

"The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office really worked hard on this case and it really made a difference in the outcome," said Blackman.

Under Measure 11, each count requires a sentence of 75 months. Blackman asked for a sentence of 225 months, but the judge ordered that the sentences be served concurrently, so Torres will serve six years and three months, followed by 10 years of post-prison supervision, minus time served.

Torres must also pay restitution of $1,912.50 to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, and $375.21 to Pacific Source Community Solutions.
