Jacob Colman, who in 1992, at age 12, shot and killed his foster parents Pete and Janet Read of Culver, was found shot to death at his apartment in Ontario on Oct. 8, according to Ontario police.

Authorities said a friend of Colman’s told his apartment manager to check on him, and she found him around 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, dead in his apartment. No other details were being released by law enforcement, due to an investigation by the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, Malheur County Sheriff’s office, and the Malheur District Attorney’s office.

For the past 22 years, Colman has had many run-ins with the law, beginning with the killing of his foster parents because they made him do homework. He was sent to MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility for eight years.

In 2000, when he turned 21, Colman was released from the facility and returned to Madras briefly. The Ontario police chief said he had moved to Ontario around 2004.

As an adult, Colman had a record of multiple arrests on charges including burglary, theft, assault, and possession of methamphetamine, according to reports. His last conviction for assault in 2009, sent him to prison for a time.

The investigation into Colman’s death is ongoing and no arrests have yet been made.
