Temperatures in Madras averaged slightly colder than normal during the month of April, according to preliminary data from the National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 45.0 degrees which was 0.7 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 60.6 degrees, which was normal. The highest was 76 degrees on April 9.

Low temperatures averaged 29.3 degrees, which was 1.4 degrees below normal. The lowest was 23 degrees, on April 14. There were 21 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.72 inches during April, which was 0.20 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least 0.01 inch — was received on eight days, with the heaviest, 0.30 inches, reported on the 22nd.

Precipitation this year has reached 5.27 inches, which is 1.28 inches above normal. Since October, the water-year precipitation at Madras has been 6.12 inches, which is 1.35 inches below normal.

The outlook for May from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center calls for near to above normal temperatures and near to above normal precipitation. Normal highs for Madras rise from 64 degrees at the start of May to 72 degrees at the end of May.

Normal lows rise from 33 degrees to 40 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.01 inches.
