Charges related to financial irregularities

Photo Credit: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Deena GossIn a brief appearance on Friday, Jefferson County Treasurer Deena Goss was arraigned in the Circuit Court on 36 charges related to financial irregularities in the Treasurer's Office.

The unspecified charges were a result of an investigation by the Oregon Department of Justice after county officials discovered that a check for a dog license had been altered and cashed for $20 over the face value.

A county investigation found 13 cases where deposits had been altered; the county turned the case over to the DOJ.

Goss, represented by attorney Todd Grover, entered not guilty pleas to the charges before Judge Annette Hillman, who continued Goss' release agreement.

Kristen Hoffmeyer, of Salem, is prosecuting the case for the Department of Justice.

The next hearing will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 7.
