Cause of house fire likely electrical
The cause of a house fire on Dec. 10, on U.S. Highway 97, south of Madras, is currently under investigation.
The Jefferson County Fire Department responded to the 10:16 a.m. call at 4845 SW Highway 97 and found smoke and fire showing from the main entrance to the house, and residents out of the house.
Firefighters entered the house and quickly knocked down the fire, but remained on the scene for about three hours, completing salvage and overhaul of the burned area.
The fire department responded with three engines and a command vehicle, eight volunteers and three staff members. Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services stood by during the response.
The probable cause of the fire was electrical, but remains under investigation.
