Nanette Woolworth, left, and Carrie Abbe are ready to greet customers at their new downtown boutique. The Coop Boutique has opened in Madras, next to Rio Restaurant, with home décor items, women’s clothing and accessories, and gifts.

Owners Carrie Abbe and Nanette Woolworth met in high school and have been friends for nearly 30 years. Woolworth’s family moved to Madras in 2001, and Abbe came here in August.

“We have dreamed of opening our own shop for years and finally decided to make it a reality,” Woolworth said.

This is a first business venture for both women. Previously, Abbe was a stay-at-home mom, and Woolworth worked in the dental field for 12 years.

The boutique has been totally remodeled inside, with chicken wire, barn boards and a farmhouse kitchen decorated with vintage furnishings to reflect its name.

The majority of items will be new, but some secondhand merchandise will also be carried for those who prefer an antique look.

The Coop Boutique will offer misses’ and women’s clothing, including shoes and accessories, purses, jewelry, belts, home décor, baby items and some unique gifts for men.

“We wanted to offer a business in Madras where people could shop locally without always having to go to Redmond or Bend for specialty or unique items,” Abbe said.

Located at 225 S.E. Fifth St., The Coop Boutique is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.
