Volunteer dentist Mark E. Jensen, and assistant Lydia Galan show Culver first-grader Jason Warren his new stainless steel crown and filling last Thursday.Twenty students in the Culver School District received free dental care last Wednesday and Thursday during a visit from the Tooth Taxi.

Each year, the Tooth Taxi travels throughout Oregon providing dental services to over 3,000 children, amounting to some $700,000 worth of free dental care annually.

The Tooth Taxi is provided through a partnership of the Dental Foundation of Oregon, Oregon Education Association Choice Trust’s wellness grant program, and ODS Insurance. It is funded through donations from foundations, corporations and individuals.

In Culver, 39 students, who were referred by their teachers and returned applications, were screened, and 20 were found to need fillings, crowns or other dental work. The volunteer dentist performing the procedures was Dr. Mark E. Jensen.
