Gregg is Miss Teen of Oregon
Seventeen-year-old Kayleen Gregg, of Metolius, was named Miss Teen of Oregon at the American Pageants contest in Caldwell, Idaho, on Aug. 12.
The nationwide organization holds its Northwest finalist pageants in six states, so the Oregon winner was named in Idaho. Pageant winners are crowned for all 50 states at other venues throughout the summer.
Gregg, the daughter of Sandra and Robert Gregg, of Metolius, is a graduate of Redmond Proficiency Academy and will be entering Central Oregon Community College this fall to study criminal justice. She has already earned three college credits in high school.
American Pageants is a scholarship pageant, not a beauty pageant. Contestants are judged on academics, personality, community service, poise and general awareness.
During her reign, Gregg will be starting a Kuddles 4 Kids project, where donations boxes will collect new stuffed animals and blankets to give to children in hospitals.
She said she will also be working with children and letting them know not to give up on their dreams.
A fundraiser is being planned to help her with airfare, hotel and food expenses to compete in the national contest, which will be Nov. 15-19, in Orlando, Florida.
The fundraiser will be Aug. 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Metolius City Park, with a silent auction and gift baskets.
