Team Oregon motorcycle safety courses are available starting Sept. 8 in Redmond.

Motorcycle safety courses are available starting Sept. 8 in Redmond, to accommodate the increasing demand for classes in Central Oregon.

Oregon law requires all new riders to take an approved safety course. Anyone younger than 21 is required to complete TEAM OREGON basic motorcycle training to earn a motorcycle endorsement. Riders 21 and older can take a basic or intermediate course to meet state requirements.

Courses are provided by TEAM OREGON, the state's approved motorcycle safety program, and sponsored by Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon State University, OSU Deschutes County Extension Service and Deschutes County Fairgrounds.

Participating in a training course is the best way to learn to ride safely in Oregon. "The motorcycle community is growing in Central Oregon. Our new site in Redmond will help ensure proper training is available to everyone who wants it," said Aria Minu-Sepehr, program director.

Redmond basic courses will be held Sept. 8-10, and 15-17.; Oct. 6-8, 20-22, and 27-29.

Basic courses cost $199 for 15 hours of instruction over three days. Courses combine classroom learning with on-cycle instruction and practice on a closed course. Training motorcycles and helmets are provided.

Redmond intermediate courses will be held Sept. 9, Oct. 7, and Oct. 21.

Intermediate courses cost $169 and include eight hours of instruction over one day. Intermediate courses are for riders 21 and older who are self-taught or who haven't ridden in some time and are getting back into motorcycling.

"Our instructors are world class and dedicated to building riders' mental and physical skills," said Minu-Sepehr. Students get training and practice time in the critical areas of cornering, emergency braking and evasive maneuvers. "If a rider is thinking of getting a motorcycle or scooter, they need to come see us," said Minu-Sepehr.

Courses are scheduled through October in Redmond. For more information or to register, visit, or call 800-545-9944.
