Organizers seeking a group of high school students to travel to Japan Sister City.

For the past 25 years, Madras' Sister City, Tomi City, Japan, has been sending students to Madras to experience a cultural exchange.Jamie Hurd, who will be a chaperon this year.

Madras sent its first group of high school students to Tomi City in 2016, and organizers are looking for a select group of qualified students to send on an exchange in June 2018. Madras resident Jamie Hurd will be a chaperon for the group this year.

Students must be responsible and trustworthy in order to represent the city and the U.S. Students will have the opportunity to stay with Japanese host families and experience the Japanese culture.

High school juniors and seniors are eligible to go on the exchange next June. The city of Madras has contributed $500 toward trip expenses. Students will be responsible for fundraising and paying $2,500 for the remainder of the cost. Additional spending money will also be needed.

Applications may be obtained in the Madras High School front office. The completed application is due Oct. 16.
