More vendors sought for fair, held in conjunction with the Point in Time count.

This year's Point in Time Homeless Count for Jefferson County will be combined with a Community Resource Fair, according to Austin Cooper, event organizer.

The resource fair is open to the public and will be held from 12-6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26, in the gym of the First Baptist Church, 85 NE A St., in Madras.

It will feature vendors, freebies, information, a raffle and fun. Vendors so far include Youth For Christ, Mosaic Medical, St. Charles Madras, Watercup Counseling, Legal Aid, the Department of Human Services and the Thrive housing program.

Any group providing community resources, that would like to be a vendor, may contact Cooper at 541-801-8801.

Meanwhile, the Point in Time Count will be happening in the fellowship area of the First Baptist Church, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There will be the incentives of a warm meal, clothing, food, and gift cards for those coming to the event. Volunteers will help homeless persons fill out a one-page survey about their situation, which is used to help the county receive funds to help homeless people.

"We want the homeless people to feel free to hang out all day, and I will bring board games if they want to play them," Cooper said, adding they may also want to find out about community resources being offered at the resource fair.

Volunteers will also be going out to homeless camps to take a count on the night of Jan. 24, Cooper said.
