Bobby DeRoest resigned his coaching duties as the Madras Swim Team and Madras Water Polo head coach last Thursday. DeRoest resigned to take a coaching/aquatic position at the David Douglas Swimming Pool in Portland.

Bobby DeRoest"Bobby has been a tremendous coach and mentor to many kids over the past six years at the (Madras Aquatic Center)," MAC Executive Director Joe McHaney said. "He will be a difficult coach to replace, but we wish him well in his new en-devour."

DeRoest will work through the end of July at the MAC, before he begins at David Douglas. DeRoest swam and played water polo for David Douglas for four years in high school.

"We will begin our search immediately to replace Bobby," McHaney said. "It's a unique position in that he coaches multiple sports and also is the Madras High School swim coach, so we have some big shoes to fill."

The Madras boys swim team placed third at this year's Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state meet in Gresham. The team brought home a state title the year before.
