Philanthropy — Annual fundraiser aims to raise $20,000 to support ongoing projects

Chehalem Youth and Family Services will hold its annual Ignite the Light luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 12.

Although the event is free, Lori Anderson, CYFS marketing director, said it’s an event that serves two purposes.

“One purpose is for those who have already given, they can see where their money is going,” Anderson said. “(The second is to) show people what we do and ask (for donations) at the event.”

She added that the organization has a difficult time finding a large enough space because the event usually hosts about 250 people, but this year Newberg Christian Church has donated space for the event.

Anderson said CYFS typically raises about $20,000 annually at the luncheon because it’s the only fall fundraiser, opposite the newer Ruby and Roses Ball in the spring.

The luncheon with begin with a networking session at 11:30 a.m., followed by as performance of the CYFS youth choir, live youth testimonials and a video presentation at noon.

Anderson said the programs supported by the luncheon include residential treatment for youth, My First Job and providing free or reduced cost mental health services.
