Ranked No. 2 in the U.S., The Allison Inn adds accolade to growing list

As part of TripAdvisor’s Green Leaders program, the travel website surveyed more than 2,100 U.S. respondents about eco-friendly travel. Using those results, they released a list of the 10 highest rated ‘green’ hotels in the country. The Allison Inn and Spa took the No. 2 spot and was the only hotel in Oregon to make the list. by: SUBMITTED - Green ambitions - The Allison Inn and Spa has seen numerous awards this year. Most recently was second ‘greenest' hotel in the Unites States.

“Blending seamlessly into 35 acres of hillside in the Willamette Valley, this 85-room resort was designed with sustainability in mind. The property boasts a ‘living roof,’ which provides insulation to reduce energy use,” according to the release.

Pierre Zreik, Allison managing director, said the hotel does as much as possible to an offer environmentally friendly and sustainable stay.

“There’s a lot of stuff (in addition to the roof),” Zreik said. “We don’t use plastic bottles at all, we only use glass.”

Most everything is recycled or repurposed, he said. The wine bottles, for example, are cut by a local company and turned into candleholders they sell in the gift shop.

“The other thing we do sounds silly; when we have towels get worn out we cut them out to use as rags, we don’t just dispose of them,” he said. “If they’re halfway decent we give them to charities for sure.”

They also dim the lights in the facility at night to 50 percent, cutting energy use.

This accolade isn’t the first for the Allison, with recent awards including No. 1 in the Pacific Northwest by Condé Nast Traveler and the hotel’s restaurant Jory making the Top 100 Best Restaurants in America by OpenTable.

Zreik attributes the success to two factors.

“I think we’re the new kids on the block,” he said. “And we have an amazing reputation. Our public relations company works so hard for us. They just make sure we’re out in front of everybody and that’s huge having a great public relations (team) to make sure in the public front.”

He said it may also be because the Allison is true to its word when it comes to both standards and customer relations.
