City accepting applications for large TLT grants

The city of Newberg is calling for applications for its new Marketing Grant Program aimed at boosting projects and programs that will draw tourists to Newberg. With up to $430,000 to spend this year in Transient Lodging Tax funds — taxes paid on overnight stays at hotels or other accommodations in town — the program offers grants of more than $10,000 to businesses and organizations able to demonstrate a grant will help them draw tourists from more than 50 miles away to stay overnight in town. Networking company to start chapter in Newberg

A national marketing company specializing in creating business networks plans to start a new chapter in Newberg. The company, Dallas, Texas-based Master Networks, assembles community chapters of local businesses for weekly meetings to build relationships, discuss each other's products and take members-only classes. The company offers to pay business owners $10 for every new member they recruit, and membership is limited to just one member from any given business type. The goal is for the members to market each other by word of mouth.
