Registration closing soon for youth soccer teams, Veritas will hold its annual running camp

Registration for youth soccer closes Monday

Registration for the Chehalem Park and Recreation District's numerous youth soccer programs ends Monday. Cost for the Youth Soccer League for boys and girls in grades K-4 is $103 for district residents and practices may begin as soon as Aug. 21. Cost for the Extreme Soccer League for boys and girls in grades 5-6 is $113.

CPRD is registering players for middle school soccer at a discounted price of $145 through Aug. 20. Cost is $165 after Aug. 20 but registration closes when the team limit (18) is met, after which players will be put on a waiting list. Practices begin Aug. 30.

Registration is also open for the Little Big Kicks soccer program for players ages 3-5, which will run from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday mornings Sept. 16 to Oct. 21. Cost is $68. Veritas youth running camp begins soon

The Veritas School cross-country program will hosts its 2017 Kids Running Camp for students entering grades third through eighth from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 7-11 at Jaquith Park. Homeschool and runners from other school are welcome to attend. Each day, coaches Ken McChesney and Brittany Watilo will teach a running skill before high school counselors lead participants through related activities. The camp, which has been expanded to include third-grade students this year, will finish with an 800-meter race for third- and fourth-grade students, a 1,600 for fifth- and sixth-grade students and a 3,000 for seventh- and eighth-grade students. Bruins Sports Day set for Aug. 23

George Fox University and the Chehalem Park and Recreation District are teaming up to host Bruins Sports Day from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Aug. 23. Boys and girls entering grades second through eighth can participate in a clinic run by GFU coaches and players where they will learn skills, take pictures and get autographs, and play in a college facility. Participants can choose from 11 different sports, including football, women's soccer, men's soccer, volleyball, cheer, women's tennis, men's tennis, women's golf, men's golf, softball or baseball.
