Sam Premo Scopacasa
After having lived a full and joyful life, Sam Premo Scopacasa passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, November 12, 2017. He was 95 years young.
Sam was born, raised and lived most of his life in SE Portland, moving to Gresham 11 years ago. His parents were Vincent and Victoria Scopacasa, immigrants from Calabria, Italy. Sam Graduated Grout Elementary and Benson High Schools. In 1942, he joined the United States Navy. Sam was a proud Veteran of World War II. Sam was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1946 and returned home. A few months later, he met and fell in love with a pretty, Italian girl named Carolyn Piro. The two were married on June 1, 1947. This past June they celebrated 70 wonderful years of love, laughter and happily-ever-after with a fun party surrounded by their large extended family. He had a heart bigger than he was and a contagious laugh that endeared him to all.
Sam worked along side his father and brother in the family business Scopacasa & Sons Building Contractors.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Carolyn; four daughters Victoria (Steve) Cunningham, Debra Price, Donna Scopacasa and Sandra (Jim) Forquer; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; and his two most recent joys two great- grandchildren. Sam is also survived by his sister Bette Wolff; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Pete.
Memorial Service will be November 21, 2017 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Recitation of the Rosary at 10:30am, Funeral Mass at 11am.
