Leola J. Bowerman
Leola J Bowerman, 82, from Portland, Ore., passed away peacefully on March 29, 2018. Born in Heppner, Ore. on January 17, 1936 to Leo and Ruth (Atkins) Gorger, she grew up in Pendleton, the oldest of five children. Leola earned her bachelor's degree from Marylhurst College and held many successful positions throughout her life: teacher, counselor and school consultant. In 1975 she became a realtor, earning many distinctions and awards throughout her 40-year career. Leola was an active member of St. Pius parish for over 17 years.
Leola loved fi ne wine, beautiful fl owers, and great music. She was altruistic, generous, and delighted in surprising folks with gifts and supporting her many favorite charities. Loved by many friends and family, she was a strong, independent and gracious woman. She was also fi ercely determined with unwavering beliefs and a force to be reckoned with.
She is survived by brothers Donald Gorger (Sandra) and Robert Gorger; sister Patricia Forsythe; sister-in-law Molly Gorger and numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother, Richard Gorger, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. April 21 at St. Pius Catholic Church, 1280 NW Saltzman Road, Portland.
A reception will follow from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Barn at Catlin Gabel School, 8825 SW Barnes Road, Portland.
In lieu of fl owers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, Oregon Humane Society, or Oregon Food Bank.
