Born to Lloyd and Mary Hinkle, May 2, 1934 in Redland, Ore., he was raised in Clackamas County with five siblings: Anita Wardell, Emerson Hinkle, Malcolm Hinkle, Carolyn Reynolds and Elmer Hinkle. In 1952, he graduated from West Linn High School and from 1953-1956 joined the U.S. Army where he served in the 82nd airborne paratroopers.

He married his sweetheart Leah Stisser in 1957, making her his for 61 years. During that time, he earned his boilermakers journeyman license, attended PSU, and raised their three children; Scott Hinkle, Lori Hinkle and Karen McEvers in West Linn, Ore. Altogether he worked as a boilermaker for 62 years. He served his Lord by faithfully attending Willamette Christian Church with his family, leading Bible studies and following the Word of the Lord.

Al loved taking his family camping, swimming, fishing, canoeing and any water activity. He enjoyed watching sports, especially cheering for the OSU Beavers.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son-inlaw, four grandchildren, and five siblings. He was a sweet and gentle man with a ready smile and kind to everyone.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26 at Community of Faith Lutheran Church.
