August 14, 1932 to November 24, 2017 - Frank L. Engle, Sr., 85, of Melba passed away on Friday, November 24 in Newberg, OR of natural causes.

Frank L. Engle, Sr., 85, of Melba passed away on Friday, November 24 in Newberg, OR of natural causes. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, December 19, at 11 a.m. at Melba Friends Church in Melba, ID.

Frank was a lifetime farmer and rancher in Melba before retiring with his wife Frances to Friendsview in Newberg, OR in 2011, where Frances continues to reside. While enjoying family and friends in Newberg, he continued to travel and oversee ranch operations in Melba until near his passing.

Frank moved to the Melba ranch from Unity, OR with his family when he was four years old and was a second generation lifetime farmer/rancher. He attended grade school in Melba where he met Frances in the third grade and the relationship continued to their marriage on June 10, 1952. Both Frank and Frances attended high school at Greenleaf Friends Academy and were married after Frances' graduation.

After living for two years in Greenleaf, while Frank worked for the Academy, they began their life on the Melba ranch. Together they raised two sons, Frank Jr. and John, who grew up working on the family operation. Frank owned and operated ranches in Melba and Donnelley, ID before condensing solely to Melba in later years.

Above all, Frank was a follower of Jesus Christ and attended Melba Friends Church where he filled many support roles over the years. His faith allowed him to overcome many obstacles in life including a severe injury on his ranch in 1987 that made life more challenging from that day forward.

He served as Commissioner of Melba Fire Department for 18 years and helped expand emergency services for the City of Melba and surrounding community. He was also a member of the Countryman's Club. Being a rancher was Frank's career and hobby. He enjoyed being outdoors performing any task that needed done, visiting with family, friends and neighbors, and watching the grass and cattle grow.

Frank is preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth and Caroline; a daughter-in-law, Patsy; and grandson, Aaron.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; sons Frank Jr. (Janelle) of Newberg and John (Jackie) of Melba; four grandchildren: Tim, Jessica (Jake), Jolene, and Jaycee; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Melba Fire Department, P.O. Box 33, Melba, ID, 83641.
