May 9, 1930 to March 6, 2018: John took joy in teaching college students and the exciting challenge of helping to develop medical equipment.

John LaDue BrewsterJohn LaDue Brewster of Newberg, Oregon passed away Tuesday evening, March 6, 2018, at his home.

He was born May 9, 1930, in Phoenix, Arizona to Marshall and Ruth (LaDue) Brewster. John would spend all of his childhood there, attending Arizona State University. Later he would move to southern California and attend Pasadena Nazarene College where he met his future wife Roma. John would then go on to Graduate School at UCLA, obtaining his PhD from there, while working at Hughes Research Labs in Malibu, CA. During this time they made a trip northward to Oregon, including a stop at Linfield College in McMinnville, which he had been inspired to visit because of his dad's experience there as a student in 1908. This proved to be a life changing experience as he met Dr. Walt Van Dyke there and was soon employed as an electrical engineer at Field Emission Corp and teaching some physics classes at Linfield. The young family made the move to McMinnville in 1960 and later to the Dundee-Newberg area in 1968. When his job teaching at Linfield came to an end after 1.5 years, because it was filled by a full time professor, John would begin teaching physics and math part-time at George Fox. He would continue there for 7 years and at Field Emission/HP for 30. Lastly, he would work at FEI in Hillsboro.

Besides his joy of work teaching college students and the exciting challenge of helping to develop medical equipment, John loved to travel and seek ways to serve God. He and Roma would do both in a short term mission with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) - first in Hawaii and then in SE Asia including China. Other non-mission trips brought them to many places in the western part of Canada and the United States, including many winters spent back in his childhood state of Arizona and time in the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. Other favorite pastimes included playing the organ, reading the Bible and other literature and being with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents Marshall and Ruth (LaDue) Brewster; his beloved wife of 56 years, Roma; his brother-in-law Bill; other family and friends.

Left to honor his memory are his two daughters Rachel and Beckie; son-in-law Wayne; grandchildren, Amy (husband Jorge), Joshua and Chris; grandchildren, Michael (wife Tabitha), Alex, Antonio, Alayna and Grace; Great-granddaughter Bexlee; sister-in-law Ruth; and others who knew him from work, church and elsewhere.

Viewing at Attrell's Newberg Funeral Home on March 15, 3-7 pm, and March 16, 11-12:45 pm. A memorial service will be held March 16, 2018, 1:00 PM, at Attrell's Funeral Chapel. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that monetary gift donations may be made to Youth With A Mission. Condolences may be left by visiting
