Hops: The Hillsboro Hops wrap up a three-game series at the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. First pitch in the Class A Northwest League baseball game is 6:30 p.m.

With the slate wiped clean and the NWL into its second half, Hillsboro is tied with all three other South Division teams at 1-1, after going a league-worst 11-27 in the first half). Salem-Keizer won the South first half with a 23-15 record.

Today's probable pitching match-up: Ross Gerdeman (0-4, 4.28) of Hillsboro versus former University of Portland standout Chris Johnson (3-3, 2.54).

Friday, July 26

Pac-12 football: The conference media day, featuring interviews with coaches and selected players from each team, will be on live stream at from 9 a.m. to about 12:30 p.m.

Hops: Hillsboro launches a five-game home series with the Everett AquaSox. Start time at Hillsboro Ballpark is 7 p.m.

Legion baseball: The AAA super regionals are today through Sunday. One of the host teams is NW Star Academy (Sandy), which finished second in the Portland-area Zone 2 standings with a 10-5 record. Also in the super regional round: Alpenrose Dairy (Wilson, 8-7) and North Willamette Valley (North Marion, 7-7). Zone 2 champion Portland Eastside Barbers, which went 15-0 in league, has qualified for the state tournament July 31 to Aug. 4 in Medford.

Saturday, July 27

Timbers: Portland returns to MLS action with a 7:30 p.m. road game against the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium on the Santa Clara University campus (Root Sports).

Timbers U-23s: Portland plays a road playoff game against the Fresno Fuegos at Ventura College, 7:30 p.m., after battling the Vancouver Whitecaps U-23s to a 1-1 draw and then winning via penalty kicks on Tuesday at Doc Harris High in Camas, Wash. Portland goalkeeper David Meves scored the deciding fifth PK to give the Timbers a 5-4 win and put them in the Premier Development League conference semifinals.

Hops: The Hillsboro-Everett series continues with game two of five, 7 p.m., Hillsboro Ballpark.

Golf: The 16th Oregon Public Links Championship is today and Sunday at Forest Hills Golf Club in Cornelius.

Running: The Bowerman AC 5K starts at 7 p.m. at the Nike World Headquarters near Beaverton. The fourth annual event is a benefit for Achon Uganda Children's Fund.

Sunday, July 28

Thorns: Portland's women's pro soccer team begins a three-game homestand with a 4 p.m. match against the Chicago Red Stars at Jeld-Wen Field (Fox Soccer Channel).

Timbers Reserves: Portland's backups are on the road, too, this week. They'll face the San Jose Earthquakes Reserves at the 1,000-capacity Nutrilite Training Facility, 11 a.m.

Hops: The middle game of five between the Hillsboro Hops and Everett AquaSox begins at 5:30 p.m. at Hillsboro Ballpark.

Horse racing: The second day of the 2013 Portland Meadows live racing season starts at 1:45 p.m. at the North Portland track.

Monday, July 29

Hops: Hillsboro meets Everett in Class A baseball, 7 p.m., Hillsboro Ballpark.

Golf: The annual Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial junior tournament is today and Tuesday at Rose City Golf Course. ...

The OGA Golf Course in Woodburn is the site of a qualifier for the U.S. Amateur Championship, Aug. 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

Thorns: The second of three games in eight days, all at home, has Portland facing Sky Blue FC in a battle of top teams in the National Women's Soccer League. Kickoff at Jeld-Wen Field is 7:30 p.m.

Hops: Hillsboro's minor-league baseball team hits the road and opens a five-game set with the Vancouver Canadians at 7 p.m.
