It was an unlucky Friday the 13th for Grant High's football team.

The Generals overcame a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter, but lost 33-30 in overtime at Sunset.

Grant had to settle for a 35-yard field goal by Aidan Schneider on the first possession of OT.

Sunset (3-0) got the ball, and Charles Wenzel went outside to score the winning TD on a 7-yard run. It was his third touchdown of the game.

Grant fell to 0-3, with previous losses of 54-14 loss to Central Catholic and 38-16 to Marist High.

The Generals will play host to 1-2 Barlow next Friday on Grant's new artificial turf field.

Neither Grant nor Sunset generated much offense in Friday's first half.

Grant stopped the Apollos at the 2-yard line on Sunset's second possession, then drove 98 yards for a TD that came on the first play of the second quarter, as quarterback Sam Davis connected with Dominique Penn for a 21-yard TD. Grant’s PAT was blocked, and the Generals led 6-0.

Sunset evened the score at 6-6 with 3:07 remaining in the half. Wenzel dove 1-yard, but the Apollos missed their PAT.

In the second half, the game opened up when Sunset went to a no-huddle offense that had Grant on its heels.

With 9:24 remaining in the third quarter, Wenzel scored on a bubble screen pass from Willy Pflug that he took 21 yards to the end zone.

Wenzel tried a run up the middle for two-point conversion, but he was stuffed by the Grant defense.

Davis then sprinted 61 yards on a keeper tot he outside, and the point-after gave Grant a 13-12 lead.

Sunset mounted a 93-yard drive capped by Hunter Kellerman's 4-yard run, and Sunset led 20-13.

Sunset went up 27-13 with 8:59 remaining in the fourth quarter. Facing a third-and-18 from the Grant 41, Pflug found Kasey Porter open across the middle. Porter hauled in the catch and went untouched to the end zone.

Grant's Tahri Robertson helped launch the comeback with a 58-yard TD run that cut the gap to 27-20.

The Generals got the ball back at their 20 with 3:53 remaining. They mixed the run and the pass until Davis found Chris Lewis along the left sideline with space between him and the Sunset cornerback. Davis lofted the ball, and Lewis made a diving catch in the end zone with 32 seconds left in regulation. Schneider's PAT forced OT.
