Blazers: Portland is 1-1 since LaMarcus Aldridge went down with a back contusion. Sunday’s 113-112 home loss to Golden State put the Warriors within 1 1/2 games of Portland, which is holding on to fifth place in the NBA Western Conference.

Winterhawks: Portland finished the regular season Sunday with a 5-4 home shootout victory against Everett. The Hawks wound up at 54-13-2-3 (113 points). ... Nic Petan, who got the winning goal on Sunday, shared the team MVP award with Derrick Pouliot, who also was named the team’s defensive player of the year. Petan was second in WHL scoring with 113 points, five behind Spokane’s Mitch Holmberg. ... D-man Keoni Texeria was voted rookie of the year for the Hawks.

Timbers: Gaston Fernandez has two goals on five shots for Portland, which is 0-0-2 after its second 1-1 draw. Chicago came away with a tie Sunday at Providence Park. ... Portland’s first road game is 3 p.m. PT Saturday at Colorado (0-0-1). The Rapids drew 1-1 at New York on Saturday.

Thorns: The defending National Women’s Soccer League team continues practice at home before its two preseason games, March against the Arizona Wildcats and March 30 vs. Arizona State, both in Tucson.

Thunder: Portland’s second outing in an 18-game Arena Football League regular season is 7 p.m. Monday at Moda Center against the Iowa Barnstormers.

Basketball: Jefferson beat Churchill 69-64 in the finals to win its second consecutive Class 5A boys basketball title on Saturday. The Democrats led 47-25 at the half, then held off the Lancers’ second-half rally. ... Jefferson senior Silas Melson was one of three unanimous picks for the all-tournament team, which also included Demos junior Kadeem Strickland. Melson averaged 20.7 points per game in Jefferson’s three wins at Matthew Knight Arena. Jeff senior Devaunte Paschal made the all-tourney second team. He scored 21, 28 and 24 points, going 27 of 48 from the field. ... Madison placed fifth in the 5A tourney, knocking off Sherwood 55-46 in the quarterfinals before losing to Churchill 68-50 and West Albany 76-74 in overtime. Madison senior Aubrey Stephens also was an unanimous all-tournament pick.


Basketball: Seventh-seed Oregon (23-9) takes on a No. 10 seed, BYU (23-11), in the NCAA Tournament first round, 12:10 p.m. PT, at Milwaukee, Wis. A second-round game Saturday against No. 2 Wisconsin likely awaits the winner.

Baseball: Oregon State, which swept Utah, and UCLA, which swept Cal, lead the Pac-12 with 3-0 records. Oregon is 2-1 after its opening series at home against USC. This weekend’s three-game match-ups are ASU at OSU and Utah at Oregon. ... Portland got swept at Loyola Marymount last week, 5-2, 10-8, 8-7, and the Pilots dropped to 5-14 overall, 0-3 in the West Coast Conference. UP’s next WCC series is at home Friday-Sunday against Saint Mary’s (8-10, 0-0).

Softball: UO is 2-23 going into a Sunday-Monday road series with Utah. Oregon State is 11-14 overall but 2-1 in the Pac-12 after an upset Pac-12 series win at home against ASU; the Beavers go to Arizona this weekend for three games, starting Saturday. ... Portland State went 0-5 last week at the UC Santa Barbara tournament. The Vikings (3-19 and on an 11-game skid) open Big Sky play with 1 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday doubleheaders at Erv Lind Stadium against Idaho State (15-10). PSU and ISU tied for the regular-season title last year.

Track and field: The Oregon Ducks won men’s and women’s NCAA indoor titles Saturday at Alburquerque, N.M. The men totaled 62 points to beat runner-up Arkansas by eight. The UO women won the final relay to finish with 44 points and edge Texas (43 1/2) and Georgia and Florida (both with 40 1/2).

Wrestling: OSU is ranked 17th going into the NCAA championships Thursday-Saturday at Oklahoma City, Okla.

Gymnastics: OSU goes into Saturday’s Pac-12 championships at Cal ranked 12th in the nation, behind conference foes Utah (No. 5), UCLA (7th) and Stanford (10th).

Tennis: The No. 30 UO men (13-1), coming off a 4-0 victory at 39th-ranked Drake, have home matches Wednesday against Hawaii, Friday vs. No. 4 USC and Saturday with No. 3 UCLA. ... The Portland Pilots women swept UC Riverside and Rhode Island last weekend, improving to 3-2 this spring. ... Portland State’s women tied their record for Big Sky wins, climbing to 3-2 with a 5-2 home victory over Southern Utah on Friday. The Viks have five conference matches remaining; next up is a Saturday road meeting with Big Sky power Sacramento State.

Sand volleyball: The Oregon Ducks’ newest sports team begins its 10-match, three-week season with five matches Friday-Sunday at Columbia, S.C.
