SATURDAY SPORTS NEWS/The 2017 draft pick from Princeton gained a contract after two weeks in camp with Portland's NWSL team

COURTESY: PORTLAND THORNS - LUSSIThe Portland Thorns on Saturday announced the addition of forward Tyler Lussi.

Taken by Portland with the 21st pick in the 2017 National Women's Soccer League college draft, Lussi was a four-year starter for Princeton.

Lussi trained with the Thorns the last two weeks. Coach Mark Parsons described Lussi as an energetic attacker who can play any of the attacking positions.

While at Princeton, Lussi was twice named the Ivy League player of the year. She is the Tigers' career leader in goals with 53 in 68 career matches. She added 16 assists.

In January, Lussi attended the United States under-23 national team training camp. In March, she played in three matches with the U-23s at a friendly tournament in Spain.

The Thorns are able to sign Lussi because Tobin Heath and Meg Morris are on the disabled list and do not currently count against the NWSL's 20-player roster limit.
