TUESDAY COLLEGE SPORTS ROUNDUP/Oregon State women finish third in California tourney/Beavers volleyball gets transfer setter from SMU


• Portland State took 11th in the 17-team Arizona Wildcat Invitational at Tucson, Arizona.

Tara Finigan of the Vikings shot a final-round 76, 4-over par, and tied for 15th.

Gigi Stoll of Arizona, from Beaverton, was third with rounds of 74-66-69 for a 209 total, seven behind winner Lilia Vu of UCLA and four back of the runner-up, the Bruins' Mariel Galdiano.

No. 1-ranked UCLA won the team title with an 847 total, nine ahead of second-place UA, which is ranked 21st in the nation. Texas, ranked seventh, was third at 860. PSU totaled 899.

• Oregon State placed third out of 16 teams at the Meadow Club Women's Collegiate in Fairfax, California.

The Beavers' 10-over 586 total trailed only 15th-ranked Washington (573) and San Francisco (583). Colorado, ranked 19th, was fourth at 588. No. 22 Illinois was fifth at 592.

Susie Cavanagh and Olivia Benzin led the Beavers with 2-over 146 totals. Cavanagh shot 76 in the final round, while Benzin had a 73.

One shot back were OSU teammates Ellie Slama with a closing 72, and Nicole Schroeder, who finished with a 71.


• Oregon State has signed setter Allison Hughes, a 5-11 transfer from SMU. She played one season there after graduating from Cypress (Texas) Woods High. She had 127 assists in 13 matches for SMU.
