James Paxton strikes out 10 and Kyle Seager hits a tie-breaking two-run homer in eighth inning in 4-2 win

SEAGERKyle Seager slugged a go-ahead two-run home run in the eighth inning and the Seattle Mariners hung on to beat Kansas City 4-2 Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Mariners took two of three games at Kansas City and won four of seven games on the road trip (one game at Minnesota was postponed with inclement weather).

They return to Safeco Field for three games against Oakland and four against Houston. The Mariners (6-4) play the Athletics at 7 p.m. Friday, with Ariel Miranda making his first start of the season opposite Daniel Gossett.

Seattle scored on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch in the first inning, but the Royals tied it in the fourth inning on Paulo Orlando's two-run double.

James Paxton pitched six innings and struck out 10, while giving up six hits and walking one.

Three relievers — Nick Vincent, Juan Nicasio and Edwin Diaz (fourth save) — kept the Royals scoreless the rest of the way. Seager hit his homer off Justin Grimm, after a walk to Mitch Haniger.

The Royals fell to 3-7.
