New Orleans 97, PORTLAND 95

• The Blazers caught fire in the fourth quarter and had chances to win or tie in the closing moments, but the Pelicans held on to take Game 1 of their NBA first-round playoff series at Moda Center.

New Orleans center Anthony Davis led the way with 35 points and 14 rebounds.


PORTLAND 3, Minnesota 2

• Diego Valeri, Alvas Powell and Fanendo Adi scored as the Timbers won their MLS home opener at Providence Park and won for the first time this season.


SEATTLE 10, Oakland 8

• The M's had 17 hits as they went up 2-0 in the three-game series at Safeco Field and improved to 8-4 overall.

The A's are 5-10.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday.


• Former Oregon Ducks standout Caroline Inglis finished 70th in the LOTTE Championship at Ko Olina, Oahu, Hawaii.

Inglis shot a 5-over-par 77 in Saturday's final round, giving her a total of 11-over 299.

The winner, Brooke Henderson, had a 69 and was at 12-under 276, four ahead of runner-up Azahara Munoz (67).
