FRIDAY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP/Portland freshman Eli Morse notches complete-game victory with 11 strikeouts at Loyola Marymount

OREGON STATE 2, Oregon 1

• The Ducks scored one run in the top of the ninth inning but left the tying run on first base, as Oregon State rode the strong starting effort of Bryce Fehmel to its second win in as many days in the Civil War series.

OSU, ranked as high as sixth in the national polls, improved to 28-6 overall and 10-5 in the Pac-12.

Oregon dropped to 19-17, 6-11.

Oregon State is up 2-0 on the Ducks as the series concludes Saturday with a 4 p.m. game at Goss Stadium.

Fehmel (5-1) allowed three hits and one walk in 7 1/3 innings, with four strikeouts.

Jake Mulholland came on in the ninth for reliever Dylan Pearce and retired the last three batters, two on strikeouts, for his 11th save of the season.

Tyler Malone's fifth-inning home run put the Beavers in front, and Adley Rutschman made it a 2-0 game with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Oregon State had five hits to Oregon's four.

Portland 6, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 1

MORSE• Freshman Eli Morse from Cleveland High improved to 3-5 with a five-hit complete game as the Pilots claimed the series opener.

It was the first complete game victory by a Pilot since 2015.

Morse, a 6-1 and 180-pound right-hander, struck out a career-high 11 Lions and walked three.

Portland led 5-0 when Loyola Marymount scored in the sxith.

LMU began the day tied for first in the West Coast Conference with San Francisco, which lost 6-0 at home to Gonzaga

The Lions fell to 10-6 in the WCC and 17-21 overall.

Portland raised its record to 7-9 WCC, 14-22 for the season.

The Pilots had eight hits, with Cody Hawken's second-inning home run giving them a 1-0 lead.

Beau Brundage, Ran Hoogerwerf and Hawken had two hits each, and Tate Budnick had two RBIs.

The Pilots and Lions also will meet at 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

MONTANA STATE BILLINGS 16, Concordia 0

MONTANA STATE BILLINGS 7, Concordia 6 (8 innings)

• MSU Billings, which leads the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, pulled off a sweep on a two-out, walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth of Game 2.

The Yellowjackets climbed to 23-7 in league and 24-12 overall.

The Cavs are 14-15, 15-24.

Game 1 was MSU Billings' 2018 home opener, and the Yellowjackets out-hit the Cavaliers, 16-1.

In Game 2, Concordia got three runs in the seventh to tie the score at 6-6. Mitch Bevacqua's two-RBI single cut the gap to 6-5, and Dominic Enbody followed with a run-scoring single.

The teams will play two again on Saturday, starting at noon PT.
