Oregon State baseball tops USC again
Oregon State 8, USC 1
• Bryce Fehmel scattered five hits over eight innings as the No. 2-ranked Beavers won at Southern Cal.
A win on Sunday would give Oregon State (48-8-1, 18-7-1 Pac-12) its first sweep of a series at USC. Game time has been moved to noon.
Fehmel improved to 8-1 with the win. He struck out two and walked one in winning his third consecutive start.
Southern Cal (24-25, 11-18) scored in the bottom of the first.
Michael Gretler hit his seventh home run of the season in the fourth.
Nick Madrigal hit a bases-loaded triple in the sixth. Cadyn Grenier, Kyle Nobach and Zak Taylor each had two of Oregon State's nine hits.
Brandon Eisert pitched the ninth for the Beavers, struck out three and allowed one hit.
UCLA 15, Oregon 1
• Jeremy Ydens homered twice and drove in five runs as the 17th-ranked Bruins pounded the Ducks (25-26, 11-15 Pac-12).
UCLA (34-17, 7-9) scored in five of the first seven innings, capping its big afternoon with a six-run seventh.
Matt Mercer took the loss for the Ducks, allowing seven runs in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out eight.
Jonny DeLuca hit a solo homer for Oregon in the seventh, his sixth of the season. Spencer Steer had two of the Ducks' five hits.
The series finishes at noon Sunday at UCLA's Jackie Robinson Stadium.
PEPPERDINE 6, Portland 2
• A four-run second inning keyed the win for the West Coast Conference-leading Waves (29-21, 17-9). Chase Lambert hit a two-run double and Brant Belk a two-run single.
Cody Hawken had two of the Pilots' six hits, including a run-scoring double.
Corbin Powers (4-7) started on the mound for Portland 22-29, 11-15 WCC).
Pepperdine starter Jonathan Pendergast struck out 10, walked two and scattered five hits in seven innings.
The series at Malibu, California, concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday.
