MONDAY LOCAL SPORTS NEWS/Oregon State will play host to NCAA regional with foes LSU, San Diego State and Northwestern State


• Oregon State will be joined by LSU, San Diego State and Northwestern State in the NCAA Corvallis regional this weekend.

The Beavers will open against the No. 4 seed in the regional, Northwestern State, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

No. 2-seeded LSU will face No. 3 San Diego State at 1 p.m. Friday, also at Goss Stadium.

OSU has been seeded third in the 64-team tournament, behind No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Mississippi.

Florida is at home in a foursome consisting also of Jacksonville, Florida Atlantic and Columbia.

Stanford, the No. 4 overall seed in the tourney, will play host to a regional including Cal State Fullerton, Baylor and Wright State.

Washington will be the No. 3 seed at Coastal Carolina in a regional to include Connecticut and LIU Brooklyn.

UCLA is seeded second in the Minnesota regional featuring the Golden Gophers and including Gonzaga and Canisius.


• Oregon's Norman Xiong finished in a tie for 11th in the NCAA championships at Stillwater, Okla.

Xiong, a sophomore from Canyon Lake, California, shot a par 72 on Monday for a 1-under 287 total.

Auburn's Brandon Mancheno and Augusta's Broc Everett led the way, finishing at 281.


SEATTLE 2, Texas 1

• Two sixth-inning runs overtook the visiting Rangers as the M's posted their 16th one-run victory and 16th come-from-behind win of the season.

Marco Gonzales (5-3) worked into the seventh inning for Seattle, and Edwin Diaz pitched the ninth for his 19th save.

Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager each hit an RBI single.

The Mariners (33-20) remained one game behind Houston in the American League West, with the Astros defeating the New York Yankees, 5-1.

Texas fell to 22-34.
