Police are still investigating the incident. No arrests have been made.

The Humane Society reported Saturday that the three-month-old Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix was taken at about 4:30 p.m. from a locked kennel just minutes before he was about to go home with a family who had adopted him.

The family finally was able to take the puppy home when the Humane Society reunited them with John on Christmas Day.

The Humane Society was worried that the thief will attempt to sell the puppy. The organization offered a $500 reward for the puppy's return and for information leading to the arrest of the person involved in the theft.

“It’s heartbreaking to see something like this happen," said Oregon Humane Society Executive Director Sharon Harmon. "The puppy was ready to go to his new home.”

The person who might have taken the puppy is a thin white man in his 40s, about 5-foot-6 with light brown hair and mustache.
