Police Chief Mike Reese plans to honor an officer injurded during a training accident with an award ceremony on Sunday.

Reese will present Officer Paul Meyer with his 20 Year Service Pin in a ceremony at Legacy Emanuel Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Meyer is at the hospital recovering from injuries he suffered while participating in ATV training on Monday, Nov. 19. Meyer was struck by a large falling tree branch during a windstorm. He is paralyzed from the waist down and doctors do not believe that he will regain the use of his legs.

According to the police bureau, Meyer and his family are very grateful for all the care and support extended to them from the law enforcement community and the citizens of the city.

An account has been established at a local credit union to help Meyer's family during this difficult time and during his recovery.
