by: PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU - Mikal HatchPolice have identified the man killed in Sunday night's officer-involved shooting at the Portland Adventist Medical Center as a wanted fugitive.

He is Merle Mikal Hatch, 50. The Oregon State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Tuesday morning and determined that Hatch died after receiving multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators have learned that at the time of his death, Hatch was a federal fugitive being sought by the U.S. Marshal's Office on an bank robbery charge. Investigators have also learned that Hatch was a career criminal with arrests in California, Arizona and Colorado on a variety of charges including burglary, bank robbery, theft, and homicide.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the initial call to and the subsequent shooting is continuing.

According to police, Hatch appeared to have multiple aliases. There is no information on previous Portland police contacts with Hatch.
