Bicyclist hit by garbage truck in critical condition
A bicyclist hit by a garbage truck in Southeast Portland remains in critical condition.
Matthew Charles Casperson, 22, was struck on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard on July 18.
The driver of the truck, Jason Christopher Amundson, 39, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No citations or charges have yet been issued.
According to police, investigators have learned that the garbage truck was turning left onto southbound McLoughlin Boulevard from Southbound 17th Avenue. Casperson rode his bike southbound on 17th on the east side of the street and was crossing McLoughlin when the collision occurred.
Central Precinct officers responded to a report of the collision at 11:01 a.m. Officers and medical personnel arrived and located both parties. Casperson was transported to a Portland hospital with traumatic injuries.
