Police defused a homemade bomb in Brooklyn Park on Sunday.

The suspect, Michael Daniel Moore, 49, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Menacing, and Manufacturing and Possessing a Destructive Device.

According to police, at 10:41 a.m. on July 21, Central Precinct officers were flagged down at the park, located at 1001 Southeast Haig Street, on the report of a man making threats with a gun.

Officers located the suspect, late identified as Moore, and took him into custody. A search of his bag located two handguns and a suspicious device.

Based on the preliminary examination, officers called for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit — commonly called the Bomb Squad — to respond to the scene.

Bomb techs responded to were able to disable the suspicious device. It was determined to be a small homemade explosive device in a small plastic bottle.

The park was closed during the investigation and reopened after the bomb was defused.
