Oregon added about 900 jobs in July as the state’s unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 8 percent from June’s 7.8 percent.

In July, 158,645 Oregonians were unemployed, 17,652 fewer than in July 2012.

July's slight rise in jobs follows a gain of 600 jobs in June, marking the 10th straight month of job gains.

The state Employment Department said Tuesday that in July the private sector expanded by 4,400 jobs while government shed 3,500 jobs. Private-sector gains were led by leisure and hospitality (up 2,300 jobs), professional and business services (up 1,900) and trade, transportation and utilities (up 1,500).

Construction cut about 1,100 jobs last month.
