by: PORTLAND WATER BUREAU - A water main break buckled newly-laid asphalt at SE 8th and Division.Crews from the Water Bureau responded to a water main break at the intersection of Southeast 8th Avenue and Division Street on Wednesday morning.

Repairs are expected to take until Thursday morning, at the earliest. In the meantime, bureau is encouraging motorists and bicyclists to find alternate routes to avoid traffic delays.

The underground 8-inch main broke about one block from where TriMet recently laid down a section of the light rail tracks for its Portland to Milwaukie project. It was under a section of the roadway that had been repaved as part of the work. Escaping water buckled asphalt above it.

The bureau was not able to immediately determine the cause of the break, however.
