A man was hospitalized and a Southeast Portland house damaged in a late Sunday morning fire.

The name and condition of the victim was not immediately released. According to Portland Fire & Rescue, he suffered burns in the fire.

Crews from Woodstock Fire Station 25 responded to the report of a fire at 4535 S.E. 66th Ave. at 11:56 a.m. on Oct. 21. They arrived to find heavy black smoke and fire coming from the home three minutes after receiving emergency calls.

The victim, an adult male, was transported to Emanuel hospital with serious burns. All residents evacuated the home before firefighters arrived. Four people were displaced.

The callers said the fire began in the kitchen and extended to the attic of the home. After entering the home, firefighters were able extinguish the fire, evaluate for extension, and conduct search operations to ensure evacuation of all residents.

Fire operations required street closures at the intersection of Holgate and Foster.

A fire investigator remained at the scene. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
