by: TRIBUNE PHOTO - Portland-area residents celebrated Friday evening the city's Christmas Tree in Pioneer Courthouse Square.Thousands of people gathered in the frigid air at Pioneer Courthouse Square on Friday evening to sing holiday favorites and applaud the official lighting of a 75-foot Douglas fir Christmas tree provided by Stimson Lumber Co.

This year's Christmas tee lighting ceremony featured a holiday sing-along with several local musicians, including Thomas Lauderdale and members of Pink Martini, "Oregon's Own" 234th Army Band and the Pacific Youth Choir.

The lighting ceremony was presented by SmartPark and was sponsored by the Portland Tribune, among others.
