An off-duty Portland firefighter helped other firefighters rescue a women trapped under a van in Northeast Portland on Tuesday morning.

The name of the woman and firefighter were not immediately released. The woman was hospitalized for unspecified injuries.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, around 8:40 a.m. on April 7, a 50-year-old woman was walking along Northeast 65th and Glisan when a van backed into her, knocking her down and pinning her underneath.

The driver of the van apparently did not see the victim.

When PF&R crews arrived, they found an off-duty firefighter comforting the woman under the van. After a ladder truck and special tools were called to the scene, firefighters were able to successfully rescue the trapped woman without further injury.

She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He condition was not released.
