Portland police will be adding patrols this weekend because of a recent rash of suspected gang-related shootings. The police released the following statement Friday afternoon:

The Portland Police Bureau's Gang Enforcement Team and Gun Task Force will be conducting extra patrols this weekend in response to recent shootings. These units will be supplemented by officers from the Precinct Neighborhood Response Teams, Youth Services Division, Traffic Division and Transit Division. Additionally, the Department of Community Justice, Office of Youth Violence Prevent gang outreach, other area gang enforcement teams as well as community groups will be out trying to prevent additional violence through both increased police presence and outreach to at risk individuals.

The PPB would like ask the public to help make us aware of any emerging issues by calling 911 for an emergency response involving potentially violent situations or by calling 503-823-3333 for other, non-emergency,situations which the police should be aware of. Additionally, anyone with information about the recent shootings is asked to come forward and contact the Gang Enforcement Team at 503-823-4190 or Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony, and tipsters can remain anonymous.
