Milwaukie’s artMOB last week announced its speaker series in conjunction with the First Friday events in May, June, August and September.

Each event will feature a short talk by a nationally known speaker with time for an audience question-and-answer session at 7 p.m. at 10558 S.E. Main St. Free wine and nibbles will be offered.

Friday, May 2: How Art Heals: Recovery from Abuse through the Arts

Margie Boulé, media personality, actor, singer and playwright; Klarissa Oh, executive director of Oregon Abuse Advocates and Survivors in Service, and Patty Yates, Circle Theater Project director, will highlight the upcoming play “Telling.” This original play by Boulé tells stories of seven survivors that are woven together to create a tapestry of pain, secrecy and ultimately, hope.

Friday, June 6: Creativity and Social Change: Arts, Education and the New Economy

Join artist and activist Natalie Sept as she discusses her upcoming project on garbage haulers along with stories from the 2013 Dishwasher series highlighting the unseen laborers in Portland’s restaurants.
