by: KOIN NEWS 6 - Oregon Gov. john KitzhaberOregon’s governor performed CPR on an unconscious woman while waiting for paramedics to arrive in downtown Portland Monday evening.

Nkenge Harmon Johnson, communications director for Gov. John Kitzhaber, confirmed that while traveling in a car near Southwest 13th Avenue and Main Street to dinner around 5 p.m. May 5, Kitzhaber saw a woman lying on the ground.

He ordered his driver to pull over, got out of the car and began to perform CPR after telling one of his security officers to call paramedics, Johnson said.

Kitzhaber, a former Roseburg emergency room doctor, continued to perform CPR until paramedics arrived and transported the woman to a hospital.

Johnson said the woman is expected to be OK.
