by: ROSS ISALND BRIDGE - Portland police patrol cars are shown on the Ross Island Bridge from an ODOT traffic camera.Police have identified the man who fell to his death from the Ross Island Bridge on Thursday morning.

Divers from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office located the body of Tyler Fisher, 22, from the Willamette River late thursday morning. Fisher's body was submerged in the river, near the bridge.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determined the exact cause of death.

According to police, Fisher jumped from the north side of the westbound side of the bridge around 3 a.m. When officers arrived, a man told them his friend wanted to swim across the river, so he took off his shoes and shirt and jumped from the bridge.

Officials said they are investigating to see if alcohol played a factor in the man’s decision to jump. Police said they will continue to consult with detectives as needed.

The Multnomah County River Patrol Unit handled the search and recovery operation. A spokesperson for Portland Fire & Rescue said firefighters responded to help with the search from the ground and in the water.
