by: PAMPLIN MEDIA GROUP: JIM CLARK - More than 100 law enforcement officers responded Tuesday morning to Reynolds High School when the emergency call went out about a campus shooting. State officials expressed shock and saddness at news of the shooting.Oregon elected officials are responding to the Tuesday morning shooting at Reynolds High School in Troutdale where one student and the shooter died.

"This is a very unsettling day for our precious community," Troutdale Mayor Doug Daoust said during a noon press conference. "My heart goes out to all of the families."

Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber issued the following statement:

"My heart is heavy after learning of this morning's tragic events at Reynolds High School. Today Oregon hurts as we try to make sense of a senseless act of violence. Please keep students, staff, the extended Reynolds community and first responders in your thoughts and prayers," Kitzhaber said.

Portland Mayor Charlie Hales' office released this statement:

“There are no words to fully express our sorrow over the shooting at Reynolds High School. We want the students, the parents and the educators — in fact, the whole community — to know that they are in our hearts and our prayers today,” Hales said.

State Sen. Laurie Monnes Anderson (D-Dist. 25), who represents Gresham, Troutdale, Wood Village and Fairview, released the following statement:

“I want to give my sincere thanks to the law enforcement community of East Multnomah County and police departments from across the metro area for their swift and capable response this morning at Reynolds High School. This tragedy will take a long time for our community to recover from, and my heart goes out the students, staff, teachers, and their families who have been directly impacted by today's events. This is a very sad day for East County.”

Oregon U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley also commented:

“This is horrible and tragic news for our community and all of Oregon. This situation is every parent's worst nightmare. I am deeply grateful to our law enforcement and first responders for arriving on the scene quickly and for working to safely reunite students with their families. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim, all the students, teachers and parents at Reynolds High School, and the Troutdale community.”
