This morning at just after 9 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southwest Third Avenue and Ash Street on the report of a man 30 feet up a tree, threatening to jump.

Officers arrived and attempted communication with the man, but he appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis and possibly high on stimulants.

Southwest First to Third streets and Ankeny to Pine were closed to all pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular traffic.

Crisis negotiators were able to convince the man to climb down and he's being taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation. Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) is at the scene as well as Portland Fire & Rescue to attempt to safely get the man to climb down the tree.

All streets are open to traffic.
