Photo Credit: KOIN 6 NEWS - TriMet staff work to repair the MAX line after a train derailed in the Lloyd District on Friday.A new problem with a MAX train in the Lloyd District aggravated existing travel problems into Friday evening.

According to TriMet, around 1:45 Friday, a westbound train was entering the Lloyd Center Station when a wheel set on the trailing car lifted off the track.TriMet says one passenger was transported to an area hospital with a minor injury. The other riders walked to the Lloyd Center platform.

"We know this has been an inconvenience to our riders. We apologize and appreciate their patience," TriMet spokeswoman Angela Murphy said Friday afternoon.

The station was not reopened until nearly 7 p.m., after the train had put put back on the tracks and towed to a maintenance yard.

The incident occurred just west of where TriMet is replacing a switch and rails. That project, which began on Monday, backed up MAX traffic more than expected, causing TriMet to suspend service between the Lloyd Center and Gateway stations. Shuttle buses were assigned to make the connections.

Because of both the new incident and the existing construction related problem, shuttle buses servred stations between Rose Quarter and Hollywood transit centers. Riders were told to expect major delays through the evening commute.

The following eastside service changes were made Friday afternoon:

• Shuttle buses are serving stations between the Rose Quarter and Hollywood transit centers.

• MAX Blue line trains are running from Hollywood Transit Center (TC) to Gresham.

• MAX Green line trains are only running between Gateway TC and Clackamas TC.

• MAX Red line trains are running between Gateway TC to the Portland airport.
