Hillsboro police are investigating an exchange of gunfire at an apartment complex Saturday evening.

No one was reported injured in the incident, which occurred at the Brookwood II Apartments, 2400 S.E. Brookwood Ave., Hillsboro.

No suspect infortmation was immediately released.

According to police, at 9:40 p.m. on Aug. 23, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of the apartments. They learned that an unidentified suspect in a small dark passenger car pulled into the parking lot and fired several rounds from a small caliber handgun at a male in the parking lot.

A parked vehicle was struck by gunfire, but no one was injured by the shots.

Police say that another male in the complex, who had observed the incident, then fired at least one round from a rifle in response to the initial shots. The suspect vehicle then drove away.

The suspect in the vehicle has not been identified and no arrests have been made. Hillsboro police detectives are investigating.
